Assobiotec Award

The Assobiotec Award was established in 2008 as a recognition awarded to the personality and/or entities who have distinguished in promoting innovation, scientific research and technology transfer. Therefore, a prize to the commitment in concrete development of knowledge.
With this award, Assobiotec wants to draw public attention to the value of innovation, an essential instrument of progress and wellness, thus reporting the merit of those who are actually trying to promote the creation of virtuos networks in areas with greater innovation.

The award consists of a sculpture, by a young artist from Turin, Sara Zampedri, entitled "BIORIGAMI."
The work describes the evolution of an origami in five different steps. The origami gives birth to a bird with outstretched wings as symbol of change, evolution and progress. Therefore represents biotechnology in its most positive meaning.
The bird, ready to fly from the highest point of the work, ultimately symbolizes the momentum into the new: innovation.

The award consists of two formal and conceptual combining parts to represent the complementarity of science communication and journalism.
The hexagonal figure refers to the molecular structure as a symbol of scientific analysis, such a smooth shape is cut vertically by a double reflective surface that is placed as the axis of symmetry.
The virtual representation is generated by the reflection, and the actual display the completion provided by journalism through a clear and critical scientific dissemination.
The hexagonal shapes and their corresponding reflex generate a two-dimensional development chain, similar to the representation of the double helix structure.
